Make a quick basket stuffer with this quick and easy broken eggshell crochet pattern! Original post from March 6th, 2020

I made this to go with my Baby Chick Pattern. It works up super quick and is also cute on its own with some fake grass and candy in it! This pattern is also available in PDF form in my Easter Pattern Bundle on Etsy.

These work perfect as mini baskets for candy or to hold a baby chick.

Materials Needed:

  • Size G 4.5 mm crochet hook or suitable hook. See Gauge section
  • Worsted weight yarn in choice of colors.
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Stitch abbreviations:

  • CH – Chain
  • SS– Slip Stitch
  • SC – Single Crochet
  • HDC – Half Double Crochet
  • DC – Double crochet
  • MR – magic ring

Gauge is not important for this project, use the yarn and hook you are comfortable with. Bigger hook, bigger eggshell. But, if you are making it in conjunction with my Baby Chick Pattern, I suggest that you use the same type of yarn and hook that you use for them. This way they should fit inside the egg perfectly.

PATTERN:

Round 1: MR, CH2, 12DC in ring. Join, CH2 (12)

Round 2: 2 DC in each around (24)

You will now work in continuous rounds 

Round 3: 3SC, INC around (30)

Round 4: INC, 5SC (35)

Round 5: 6SC, INC (40)

Round 6: SC around (40)

Repeat this round until you get the height you desire.  I stop at Round 6 for the chick so that you can still see his face.

Round 7: *SS, HDC, DC, HDC, SS* repeat sequence around (40)

Round 8: SS in each stitch around. When you get to the DC’s, make SS, CH1, SS all in the same stitch.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
