When Elise of AngelBunny Creations first posted her Fiesta Hip Hugger design, it was love at first site. I was thrilled to be able to test the pattern for her. The design is so simple yet beautiful and very practical. It is the perfect size for your phone and other little necessities on the go. I personally can’t wait to get back to craft shows, not only to be able to sell these, but to use one for my money and such!
As I was seeing all the beautiful bags everyone was making with Elise’s pattern, I got inspired to put a Mermaid flair on one of these!
This is a modification to the Fiesta Hip Hugger by AngelBunny Creations . You must purchase her pattern in order to complete this project.
Materials:
- J/6mm Hook *Note – I use an I/5.5mm hook for the one made with the hand dyed yarn and it resulted in a slightly smaller bag, but still suitable for a phone. The hook shown was make by HeartSprinkle
- Worsted weight cotton yarn in your choice of colors. In the one used in the pattern pics I used hand dyed merino wool by Beach.Day.Creations on Instagram and I Love This Cotton in Aqua.
- 3/4 – 1″ Buttons. I used these found in my Etsy Shop
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Stitches uses other than what is listed in the pattern:
SHELL: 5 DC in one space
Follow the instructions in the pattern up to when you are about to add the bobble trim. Switch to accent color if you are using one.
Using the instructions of where to join your bobbles to the edge, do the following: SHELL in first space, *SC in next, SHELL in next* repeat once from * to *. You will now be at the point of the flap as shown below.
Now you will make a SHELL in the designated space on the opposite side of the point. This will create your button loop between the two SHELL stitches. Now continue down in the following manner *SC in next, SHELL in next* repeat once from * to *. Now you will finish as described in the pattern.
I also made one in Lily’s Sugar and Cream Cotton Yarn in Beige and Sea Breeze and used my Sand Dollar Buttons for this one! I though it was fitting because Sand Dollars are said to be lost Mermaid Coins.
